The Journal
Founded on a tradition of highly integrated academics, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) enjoys a global reputation for cutting-edge research. Nevertheless, early-career social science scholars, particularly undergraduate and graduate students, often struggle to find a suitable journal where they can publish and disseminate their research for free. This barrier threatens to widen the gap between students and the academic world. The Amsterdam Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS) addresses this gap by empowering social science students and early-career scholars to engage with academia both as submitters and as part of a student-led team committed to rigorous, open-access, and academic publishing.
AJSS is a student-led, peer-reviewed, international, academic journal, supported by the University of Amsterdam. This journal takes an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary debates in the Social Sciences. In addition to academic research articles, AJSS also accepts commentaries, literature reviews, and theoretical essays. Our journal is open to developing new submission types for authors who do not recognize themselves in the above-mentioned types. AJSS runs a permanent open call and publishes organically, in line with the flow of submissions, through its online platform.
